The UK's statutory compensation scheme for customers of authorised financial firms that have failed; for investments it can usually compensate up to a stated limit per eligible person, per firm, but does not cover poor investment performance.
Central to protection messaging and highly sensitive to misstatement of scope and limits; must be treated as a backstop, not a guarantee against loss.
